Hey there! Me again with another long overdue post for y’all! I’ve been in Puerto Viejo for the past 2 weeks and we leave on the 5th of January to go to Guatemala!

Honestly there were so many amazing things I wanted to post about and some things still from Turrialba, but this one really takes the cake and I really just want to share my experience. Don’t worry I’ll be getting those blogs out way quicker (hopefully), but for now let’s jump into the craziest night of my life.

On Wednesday (the 29th) night, the Lord was asking me to do a prayer burn. If you don’t know, a prayer burn is when you pray all night for whatever the Lord places on you heart. I got permission from a leader (Thanks again Gretchy!) and asked a friend if they wanted to join. The Lord just happened to ask her to do the same thing that same night. So we waited until 11 pm and then started praying. From this point on I’m going to write out the hours and what happened in them.

11:00 pm: We prayed for the first hour and made plans to have a Bible study at twelve. For the first hour I wanted to focus on thanking God for everything. During this first hour, I saw dark figures running around the property. While I prayed over the boys cabin, saw the same figures running on all fours away. As I kept praying throughout the night I’d keep seeing a black head poke its head in the side door, just for it to disappear soon after I saw it.

12:00 am: We spent this hour reading the story of Samson. While we were trying to read the story we kept hearing footsteps in the gravel around us and on the balcony of the girls house. We prayed over our families and safety over them, knowing that was a common attack, and we heard a maniacal laugh. I felt the need to read Psalms 91, mainly to rid fear. I started reading at a whisper but as I continued through the Psalm the area around us grew louder and louder, causing me to almost yell the remaining Psalm. The footsteps were sounded like frantic running, pounding on the ceiling was heard, doors were creaking, and a clicking sound was coming from the jungle. When I got to verse 14 all the noise suddenly stopped.

1:00 am: Before the night had started I unplugged all the Christmas lights so we wouldn’t be fully breaking the lights out rule. As we were worshipping, my friend grabbed my leg and I looked up to see the rainbow Christmas lights were flashing brightly in the darkness. I ran over to see who had plugged them in and came to learn absolutely no one was around. This is when it finally started setting in that we were really dealing with the Spiritual world. We went back to our table and prayed fear away and we heard a low growl resonate around the building. I ran out to find nothing near us. Soon after another friend woke up due to a demonic dream.

After our friend woke up, the activity died down a ton. The rest of the night was calm, and we kept praying over each member of the squad and their families. At 5 am we finally went to sleep.

After that night, I’ve had to process all I’ve seen and prayed through. There were many mental attacks following that night. However, even during that time I was filled with boldness and excitement. I mean how cool is it that my friend and I got to see a whole nother world. We got to see first hand just what we were being protected from. We even got to sit on the front lines and pray for our beloved squadmates. I know that we talk about Spiritual attacks and demons in churches but nothing will ever prepare you to experience it first hand. To even see it. I have thanked God countless times for that experience because I know it has prepared me to overcome greater things. Whether that’s for myself or for others. I can easily say that night might have been my favorite part of the Race this far. It has also strengthened my faith monumentally.

Well that’s all I got. Hope you enjoyed hearing about that crazy night experience! I’m going to try posting again next week. To share some more cool experiences with you! Thank you for reading this far!

Until next time!

  1. Oh my goodness! What a night with the Lord, Kaili! Thanks be to God for allowing all of that darkness to ultimately draw you closer to Him!!

  2. Thank you for sharing that. Don’t let it become “oh, that thing that happened once upon a time”. We have a spiritual enemy and he seems to play hide and seek in the states. It’s as though the enemies power in the states lies in people thinking he’s a cartoon or a concept, not a reality. There is a spiritual enemy. There is a battle. It is real, even when we don’t see it with our eyes.
Praising Jesus that this experience brought deeper faith and greater boldness into your heart.

  3. I completely understand what you mean! I had similar experiences in a house fire years ago when I was trapped inside and then just started praying. It can be very eye opening. Proud of you!

  4. Wow!
    What an adventure!!
God is really pulling all the stops on what He’s teaching you!

  5. This is so cool that you shared this with everyone. I would encourage to continue to share with people around you as you go home and other parts of the world. This doesn’t have to be just a growing experience for you, but you have the ability to invite people into the goodness of the Lord. After this experience you had with the Lord

    Love you big, Jason
